Audio Formats I can upload include: Mp3 files at 192KBps, and uncompressed aif files.
iStock only accepts uncompressed wav files.
It is ok to use sections of audio that I do not create as long as they are less than 5 seconds long.
All audio that is uploaded to istock needs to be a unique creation.
I can create a song solely using loops that I have purchased and are royalty free.
iStock is committed to original content and while you can use individual sampled beats & notes combined as a unique creation, do not use completed loops in combination as a final submission.
iStock only allows music that has been submitted at 16bits and either 44.1Khz, or 48Khz
We recognize that there can be quality benefits to having audio at a higher quality, at this time we ask that you down-convert these files. We however do suggest that if you have the ability to record at 24/96 or higher and then dither down to 16/44.1 or 48 to do so as many higher resolution benefits are gained in the recording stage.
I recorded a band years ago, and am not in contact with the musicians now. They are no longer playing or using the song, do I still have to get all of them so sign a talent release form?
Performances and recordings, are the property of the individual who played the music. In order for you to submit their section of the performance or recording you will need to get all musicians, recording engineers, arrangers, lyrical content creators and producers to sign a talent release form. This includes the submitter as well, unless the submitter was not involved in the project.
Our band recorded a song in which we hired a guitar player. We have all signed the talent release form, but the hired guitar player will not. Can I remove the guitarists tracks and then upload?
As long as the entire audio source is created by members who have signed the talent release form, the file is ok to upload.
Audio that goes beyond 0db in the digital domain is unacceptable.
In the digital realm any audio that goes beyond 0db is completely cut/lost and results in a harsh clipping or popping noise.
It's o.k. to use computer software to create compositions, where software or hardware does the chording, arranging, or completes the note structure.
All music, sound, or effects need to be created from scratch. Software or hardware should not be used to create sections of music the contributor does not have the skill to create themselves.
Members of SOCAN, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GEMA, PRS, etc… (performing rights organizations) can contribute Standard audio to iStock while still under contract.
False: In order to ensure that iStockaudio’s standard audio collection is royalty-free, iStockaudio contributors must not be members of a performing or other rights organization (PRO) This includes any person that is part of a recording who has ever become a member of a performing rights or similar society.
Can I include a lyrical section in my audio that contains reference to a major computer manufacture?
Even if you have the consent of a business we ask that lyrical content not include reference to businesses, corporations, or recognizable figures.
